Wrestling Results

School District #23 wrestlers saw their first action of the season this past Saturday. They competed at the Salmon Arm Slam Wrestling Tournament which was held at Sullivan Secondary School in Salmon Arm on December the 10th.

Tristan Ferguson, a grade ten student at Kelowna Secondary School, dominated his opponents with four straight wins by pins, to win the 85 kilogram weight class. In his first match, Tristan was up by a score of 6 to 0 before he pinned Ethan Haskell of Valleyview Secondary School. Next, Tristan defeated another Valleyview Secondary Student, Marco Alfaro, by a pin while leading by a score of 4 to 0. For his third match, Tristan pinned Ashrith Lakkinen of Sa-Hali Secondary School while leading by a score of 8 to 0. In the finals, Tristan pinned Brayden Monaghan of Valleyview Secondary School at 1:29 of the first period while winning by a score of 10 to 0. Tristan pinned all his opponents in the first period while not having a point scored on him in the tournament.

Congratulations also go to Cash Andrews, a grade eight student from Dr. Knox Middle School, who finished second in the 51 kilogram weight class. To start off the tournament, Cash defeated Carter Schmidt of J. L. Jackson Secondary School by a pin in the first period. In his second match, Cash lost by a score of 10 to zero to Daniel Laroche from J. L. Jackson Secondary. Cash then ended the tournament by pinning Owen Roy of J. L. Jackson Secondary School at 50 seconds of the first period while leading by a score of 6 to 2.
